Another wild pig attack in Barak Valley; 3 injured

A second such attack within the span of 10 days has shocked many in Barak Valley. Yesterday evening, the tea garden workers at Putni Tea Estate located in Patherkandi, Karimganj got attacked by wild boar. As per available information, when the tea garden workers were working at the estate they got attacked by the boar.

The three injured have been identified as Uttam Balmiki Das (24), Abhimanya Turia (35) and Sachindra Balmiki (35). All of them were initially rushed to the local health centre but then referred to the Karimganj Civil Hospital for better treatment.

Local MLA Krishnendu Paul visited the spot immediately after he was informed about the incident. He assured financial aid to the wounded and at the same time promised free treatment to all three of them. He also dialed Assam’s minister of Forest and Environment Parimal Suklabaidya and informed about the incident. At the same time, Paul asked for suggestive measures to escape the attack from wild animals in the future.

“Minister called the Forest department and asked them to look into the matter immediately,” said Paul.

It is worth mentioning here that on April 21, 2020, in a similar incident, a 53-year-old lost his life in a tea garden in Medly Village located in Patherkandi Karimganj. At around 2 PM a wild pig or boar attacked shepherds who were rearing their cows. One individual got injured in that attack and is still undergoing treatment.
