
Assam's first Corona patient, Karimganj resident tests negative; confirms sources in SMCH
Assam’s first COVID positive patient, a Karimganj resident was shifted to Corona block in Silchar Medical College and Hospital on March 31, 2020. Since then the doctors and paramedical staff at the SMCH have been treating him. The patient is also suffering from blood cancer and on request of the government of Assam, Padma Shri Ravi Kannan also visited and advised treatment to the Karimganj based businessman.
As per sources in Silchar Medical College and Hospital, the patient has tested negative in his latest test. After fighting for more than a month the Karimganj resident with the support of the medical facilities has managed to defeat the virus.
“We are waiting for a go-ahead from Guwahati and once we get official permission we will make necessary arrangements to discharge the patient. The State’s health department will advise us on the standard operating procedure,” said a senior official of Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
On March 28, 2020, he developed symptoms and visited the local health care centre where the doctors referred him to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. On March 29, the first test was conducted at SMCH where the result turned out to be positive. SMCH then consulted NIV Pune which confirmed that the patient is indeed suffering from COVID 19.
