Flights to and fro Kolkata airport remain cancelled till 27th May; Silchar-Kolkata to fly on 28th
As flight services are ready for resumption from 25th May onwards, no ‘to and fro’ flights will operate from Kolkata Airport till 27th May, Kolkata Authorities of AAI informed on Sunday.
“As West Bengal government is involved in restoration work after Amphan Cyclone, State Government requested the Ministry of Civil Aviation to defer resumption of flights from Kolkata Airport. Accordingly, flights will resume from Kolkata from 28 May, with the reduced schedule” Kolkata Airport Authorities said.
Accordingly, flights from Kolkata to Silchar stands cancelled for next 3 days.
As per the received information, Air India has cancelled its flights to and fro Silchar till 27th May 2020. Spicejet has also cancelled 3218/3219 (CCU-IXS) flight for tomorrow.
It can be mentioned here that though DGCA approved two Spicejet flights in Silchar Kolkata sector from 25th May, the airlines have withdrawn one flight (SG-3213/3214) day after the announcement of the schedule.
Earlier this week, the Centre decided to resume domestic flight operations in the country. Flight operations were suspended when the lockdown began in March. The union home ministry has released a list of guidelines for air, rail and bus travellers in the country that focuses on detecting symptomatic passengers and ensuring their treatment.
While operations at the Kolkata airport were hit by cyclone Amphan, some other states are not very keen about the resumption of air travel.
Civil Aviation Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, who is negotiating with the states, posted on twitter “It has been a long day of hard negotiations with various state governments to recommence civil aviation operations in the country. Except for Andhra Pradesh which will start on 26/5 & West Bengal on 28/5, domestic flights will recommence across the country from tomorrow.”
