NIT Silchar climbs up to 46th in NIRF ranking, Assam University fails to make it to top 100
Union education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Thursday announced the NIRF ranking for Indian Institutes. IITs have once again managed to occupy the top three positions in the engineering category, with IIT Madras topping the chart followed by IIT Delhi and IIT Bombay at the second and third rank, respectively.
In the ‘overall’ category, the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru occupied the second position.
Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati secured 7th rank in both the ‘overall’ and ‘Engineering’ category.
NIT Silchar secured 46th rank among all Engineering institutes across the country, whereas 9th among the NITs. Last year, it was in 10th rank among the NITs. This year it succeeded to overtake NIT Durgapur.
No ranking for Assam University was seen in the NIRF website. However, it was kept in a rank band of 101-150 under the ‘University’ category. Assam University ranked 97th in the ‘University’ category last year.
Every year, the Central government declares the NIRF ranking of Indian Institutes which was started since 2016. NIRF rankings are awarded based on the following parameters – Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception. This is for the first time Dental Colleges have also been ranked under NIRF.
