7 PM to 7 AM curfew from tonight; Lockdown in weekends in Municipality Areas all across Assam 

Health Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a new set of guidelines to prevent the further outbreak of Coronavirus in the State.

Sarma said that a lockdown will be imposed in Guwahati and Kamrup Metro for 14 days starting midnight June 29.

He also announced that night curfew from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM will be imposed from today onwards in the entire state. However, respective district magistrates need to notify the same in their respective districts.

Apart from that there will be weekly lockdowns in all the municipality and town committee areas across the state, informed the health minister. “Mostly in weekends that is Saturday and Sunday,” said Sarma.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said the steps have been taken after considering the community level transmission in Guwahati. The Minister said more than 600 COVID positive cases have been detected post-June 15 who did not have a travel history.

Sarma made it clear if this too does not work then the state will take more stringent measures to curb the outbreak.
