Air, Railway passengers can travel during lockdown; "Their ticket will be the pass": ADC Sumit Sattavan

The State government has issued a new set of guidelines to restrict the outbreak of Coronavirus in Assam. After detecting more than 600 COVID positive patients without travel history in Guwahati and its adjacent areas, the state has imposed blanket lockdown in Kamrup Metro.

The state has also asked respective district magistrates to impose night curfew from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM and weekend lockdowns in areas under municipality and town committees all across Assam.

This has raised many questions among common people’s minds. What will happen to those who are traveling back to Cachar in the weekends, what about those who have tickets to leave via train or flight from Silchar…

The additional deputy commissioner of Cachar, Sumit Sattavan addressed the issues during his press briefing earlier today.

He said that anyone with an air or train ticket can travel to Kumbhirgram Airport or Badarpur Railway station during the lockdown. “Their tickets will be their pass,” said Sattavan. He added, “If they are hiring a car or autorickshaw to drop them to the airport or railway station, they must hand over a copy of the ticket to the driver of the respective vehicle. The copy of the ticket will act as a pass for drivers and the vehicle too but only for a limited period.”

So, if the flight is at 12:30 PM the ticket will only work as a pass for a limited period after the scheduled departure. “It should not happen that the driver drops passengers to the airport at 12:30 PM and then roams around till 8:00 PM showing the copy of the ticket. That won’t be tolerated,” he stated.

As far as the lockdown is concerned, Sattavan reiterated what the health minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said in the afternoon. “The lockdowns will be imposed in areas under the Municipality board and town committees. There won’t be any lockdowns in the Gaon Panchayat areas,” said Sattavan.

However, the 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM night curfew will be applicable all across the district and the entire state. Violations will be dealt with as per provisions under CrPC.
