14 Police officials tested positive for COVID 19 so far, 4 today: Cachar SP
The outbreak of COVID19 has hit the police officials hard in Cachar. After the officer in charge of Silchar Sadar Police Station yesterday, today, four others from the Police department tested positive for COVID19, informed SP, Bhanwar Lal Meena. He said, with this the total number of police officials to test positive for coronavirus in Cachar has grown to 14.
“We are prepared for the number to grow further,” said Meena. Police Officials are COVID warriors and stay outdoors, and exposed to infection for a large part of their duty period. “We have decided that we will not test all at one go, instead will take a phase-wise testing approach. At the same time, we have asked the officials to take all the precautions in order to keep themselves safe,” said the SP.
He emphasized that the phase-wise testing approach is critical for resource management. “Now we are testing officials in the Silchar Sadar Police station and in case of shortage of resources there, we can use the resources in other outposts. If we test all at one go, we could run into a scarcity,” said Meena.
However, he made it clear that the Police officials with Influenza-Like Illness or any other symptoms will be tested immediately and kept in isolation. “The situation is under control and we have enough Police officials to serve the purpose for the time being. Yes, it is under stress but we are in the middle of a pandemic and everyone is under pressure,” said Meena.
He assured that the law and order in the district will not suffer because of Police officials testing positive and safety and security of the general public will continue to be their priority. The law enforcement agencies have been asked to be on their toes in ensuring that the COVID protocols are strictly followed to the T.
