Today during a press conference Member of Legislative Assembly, from Hojai constituency, Shiladitya Dev said that the country as well as the state cannot ignore the rise of criminal activities. He is of the opinion that out of 100 crimes 80 are performed by the people of Muslim community.
The MLA condemned the recent rape incident in Hailakandi and said, “A muslim boy has done it, in Hojai few days back in a similar incident the criminal was from the same community. Hailakandi rape incident is a shame for the state and we must not ignore it,” Dev added.
A minor identified as Giniram Riyang (13 years) was raped and brutally murdered in Hailakandi on March 15, 2018. The police arrested Jasim Uddin aka Abdul Miya and is the prime accused in the case.
Shiladitya Dev feels the ‘Mullah’s’ and ‘Maulubi’s’ need to take the ownership on them and they should address the issue and rectify the problem, “This rise in crime in one particular community cannot be restricted by the government or police or any political party. The people in the community who are respected should take the issue seriously and clean the mess. This repeated crimes are defaming the entire community so its their responsibility to address the issue and restrict the crime…,” Dev opines.
He feels all communities can respectfully co-exist, “I am not saying throw out Muslims, we all want to live together peacefully, what I am saying is instead of ignoring the mess we should clean it immediately,” he adds.
Dev also raised the issue of growing Bangladeshi infiltration. He says, “Everyday you read the newspapers you will find that here there is robbery, there you have a case of people cutting shutters and robbing… go to Police station and find out who is the culprit, you will find a Bangladeshi Muslim is behind it…”
Shiliaditya Dev is a first time elect from Hojai constituency. The BJP politician won the seat in 2016 from Indian National Congress’ Ardhendu Kumar Dey who was elected in 2011 Assembly elections.
