Four months back a case of burglary in HPC Panchgram was registered in Panchgram Police Station. The officials had arrested one suspect immediately after the incident. The suspect after initial interrogation confessed about the robbery and gave out few more names and addresses. Police then ran a search operation, stolen goods worth Rs 1.5 lakh were recovered from the addresses, the suspect gave but the others involved were abandoning.
This week, the Police managed to track the whereabouts of the absconding suspects and arrested them. Group leader Ismail was arrested from Uttar Kanchanpur area and he gave out names of Sajal Acharjee of Saratpalli Silchar and Altaf Hussain of Hailakandi. Both of them are also in Police custody and have confessed the crime, informed the officer in charge of the Panchgram Police station.
The stolen goods are mostly production items, hardware and tools. The officer said that there are severe loopholes in the security system of the Mill. “Because they do not get their salaries they are now ignorant about their responsibilities and that’s why such a robbery took place,” said the officer.
He also added that Panchgram Police station has deployed Police officials in the mill compound and regular patrolling is done during the night.
