In a Facebook Live interaction on Thousand Sayantans’ page, Padma Shree Dr. R Ravi Kannan and renowned cardiologist Dr. Rakesh Gopal spoke about the healthcare scenario in the Barak Valley and offered valuable advice on some emerging health problems in these troubled times.

Dr. Kannan spoke about his long association with Dr. Gopal and how the latter has always been an insightful companion in the former’s fascinating love affair with the Barak Valley. He also spoke about the role of technology, community participation, and skill development in achieving equitable and affordable healthcare for all.

Dr. Gopal focussed on cardiac diseases and the need for early detection and emergency intervention in reducing mortality. He spoke about the epidemiology and clinical presentation of angina pectoris and heart attacks. He emphasised on educating the public about the important risk factors and precipitating factors of heart disease apart from discussing various lifestyle issues surrounding cardiac diseases.

Dr. Gopal Sir confessed to being excited about joining Silchar Medical College. He stressed upon the need to develop skilled healthcare workers to tackle this burning issue. He assured before signing off that he looked forward to mentoring young medical professionals in his ensuing stint at the Barak Valley’s premier teaching hospital.
