Lockdown in Barak Valley from August 26 to September 4; "There is a possibility," chief secretary
Considering the high number of COVID positive cases in all three districts of Barak Valley, the government is in the process of imposing a lockdown. A while back, Karimganj DC announced that there will be a total lockdown in the valley and urged the people of Karimganj to stock up essential items.
When reached out to the chief secretary of Assam, Kumar Sanjay Krishna, he said, “There is a possibility of lockdown from August 26 to September 4.”
Speaking to Barak Bulletin, Krishna added, “As the number of cases and deaths have both increased rapidly in all three districts, we feel there is a need for some restrictions.”
On what will remain shut and what will stay functional, Kumar Sanjay Krishna said that an order is likely to be issued tomorrow. The chief secretary added that it is still tentative until the government announces it formally.
Karimganj DC, also mentioned that he had a conversation with the chief secretary earlier today and that is when it was decided.
