Barak Valley: Man allegedly tortures wife for not giving birth to a boy, kills 9-month-old daughter

Shocking news coming in from Karimganj’s Kaliganj area. Police officials have dug out a 9-month-old’s dead body from a graveyard.

As per available information, Kaliganj area’s Juhirkandi village resident Usmaan Ali allegedly killed his own 9-month-old daughter and buried her in the local graveyard. An FIR was filled by Usmaan Ali’s wife where she complained that Ali tortured and killed their fourth child.

The Police got into action accordingly and recovered the dead body. “We are sending the body for post mortem. It is too early to say if this is a natural death or murder. Only after the autopsy, we will be in a position to comment on the cause of death,” said the officer in charge of the investigation.

“It has been alleged that Usmaan Ali has killed his own daughter, however, it is subject to investigation. Ali is missing and Police officials are trying to trace him,” added the Police official.

Usmaan Ali got married to Salma Begum eight years back and according to the locals, everything was fine between them. “Salma gave birth to a girl child and Usman wanted a boy so they kept trying and nine months back, Salma gave birth to the fourth daughter and the chemistry between them changed,” said a neighbour.

Salma in her complaint wrote that she was frequently tortured by the Usmaan as she failed to deliver a baby boy. “Last week, he took a dao and threatened to kill her. That is when she ran for her life but left behind the nine-month-old daughter. Usmaan called Salma’s parents to come and visit as he was going to kill their daughter. From the next day, both Usmaan and the kid were missing and that is when we decided to lodge a police complaint,” said a family member.

What actions Police take, remains to be seen.
