Sept 7 COVID update: 7 Dead in SMCH; 85 positive in Cachar, 131 in Karimganj, Hailakandi 88
A huge jump in the number of COVID related deaths in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. In the last four days, the number of deaths was restricted to one or at the best two, yesterday there was no death in the COVID wards of SMCH. Today, seven patients succumbed in the COVID wards, and out of them, six are from Cachar and one from Karimganj.
Vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed, “Six of the seven are COVID related death while one resident of Karimganj has been declared as a COVID death.”
For the benefit of the readers, when someone tests positive and dies in the COVID Wards of SMCH, it’s defined as a COVID related death. However, reports of all the COVID related deaths are sent to the State Level Audit Board which declares COVID Deaths.
The Vice-principal added that 117 COVID related deaths took place at SMCH and out of them, 43 have been declared as COVID deaths.
In the last 24 hours, 24 patients took admission in SMCH whereas 18 got discharged after treatment. Currently, there are 201 active cases in SMCH’s COVID Wards that cater to symptomatic patients. “16 are in ICU and one has been placed under a ventilator. 22 patients are in critical condition and 26 are on oxygen support,” added Dr. Gupta.
The Cachar health department informed that 85 individuals have tested positive on Monday. 84 of them were tested using the Rapid Antigen Test kits.
In Karimganj district the number of COVID Cases today stood at 131. 55 tested positive as per the reports of RT-PCR while 76 samples tested positive on RAT Kits. 1039 samples were tested using RAT kits in Karimganj.
88 COVID-19 positive cases have been reported Hailakandi district on Monday, taking the district’s total tally to 2,608.
Health authorities disclosed that of the 88 positive cases, 87 have been detected under the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). 1,030 swab samples have been taken on Monday.
