Police recovers 1290 kgs ganja from Barak Valley

What could be one of the biggest busts in Barak Valley, police recovered 1290 kilograms of weed (ganja) in two operations recently. Both the recoveries were done from trucks that were carrying the narcotics in hidden chambers.

On March 20, an accident took place on NH 44 at Digharkhal Bazaar late at night where a truck collided with a stranded truck. The vehicle was damaged, and the driver and handyman received grievous injuries. The alleged truck was found to be without any load at the incident. But on 23 March a source informed that the truck has a secret modified chamber in between the cabin and the body. Our source informs that accordingly, a search was conducted and several ganja packets packed with brown colour tap was found there. The total weigh of the ganja is estimated to be 930 kgs in total.

Ganja recovered by Cachar Police and BSF

Coming to the second bust, on specific information Cachar Police and BSF intercepted a Swaraj Mazada truck (SML) without number plate on NH 44, Gumrah on March 23. On being stopped by operation party, the driver and co-driver jumped from the truck and fled away. The truck was searched and 18 packets of ganja weighing 360 kgs in total were found. The packets were kept concealed inside a fabricated cavity beneath the body of the truck. The truck and ganja packets were seized and FIR was lodged and follow up action is being taken.

Last month, Silchar police had also seized WY drugs worth 2 crore. It’s shocking to see how the ‘island of peace’ is turning out to be a smuggling gateway… In this case well done Cachar police BSF, more of such busts will scare smugglers…
