Earthquake jolts Assam, tremors felt in Cachar, Karimganj, whole of Barak Valley

At 11:08 PM an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude jolted the whole of Assam. National Center for Seismology has made an update and changed 5.8 to 5.3

The epicenter as per the official records is 2km WNW of Bishnupur, Manipur, India

A resident of Shivalik Park living on the first floor said he saw the fan moving abnormally and then the floor started shaking. “I heard people praying loudly and that is when I realised it is an earthquake,” said the Meherpur resident.

Another Ambicapatty resident said that this is the worst tremor she felt in recent times. “I live in an Assam type house and so I normally do not feel that bad. But this time it was horrible. The duration was less but the shake was huge,” said the Ambicapatty resident who stays alone at her home.

The tremors were felt in Guwahati too.
