NEET 2020: Barak Valley's Swapnaneel Bhattacharjee secures 2nd position in Assam

At this young age, Karimganj-born Swapnaneel Bhattacharjee has made it a habit to feature in the merit lists. His sister missed class X’s merit list by a whisker and that is when he got motivated and said, “I am not going to miss it.”

Tenth position in Class X, state highest in Science subjects in Class XII and then with 676 marks, he secured 822 All India Rank in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test – NEET, 2020. The results were declared on October 16 and Bhattacharjee shone brightly yet again. Son of Sumit Bhattacharjee and Saswati Bhattacharjee, Swapnaneel has always drawn inspiration from his sister Satabdi Bhattacharjee, Today, the Bhattacharjee’s have something more to feel proud of.

In the Assam State Rank announced by NEET, Swapnaneel Bhattacharjee has secured the second position. “It is a matter of immense pride,” said Swapnaneel Bhattacharjee. He added, “I have already applied at BHU, AIIMS Bhubaneshwar, and a couple of other medical colleges outside Assam. Yet, this rank means a lot to me.”

Sibanuj Borkotoky with 700 secured the top position. His All India Rank is 103 and is likely to get a seat at AIIMS Delhi which is considered the best institute for Medical Studies in India.

He is waiting to start his Medical Education and only after having some first-hand experience, he will decide which specialisation to go for. “I don’t have ambitions of practicing in foreign countries. After becoming a doctor, I want to serve people in India,” he asserts.

Apart from being a doctor, he also has his eyes set on becoming an IAS Officer. After his tenth, Bhattacharjee had said to Barak Bulletin that he wants to become an IAS officer. When reminded about that dream, he smiled… “I thought that I will get into a stream of studies and then prepare for UPSC. That dream is still there…”

Sharing details about his NEET preparation, Bhattacharjee had earlier said, “This is something that does not happen overnight. It is a result of the hard work done in the last couple of years. I would say big thanks to the professors of Ramanuj Gupta College, Purnadeep Chanda sir, Shubrajyoti Sir. The way they teach it does not benefit you only in your boards but also helps you prepare for entrance examinations. My base got cleared because of them.”

“Yes, I did enroll myself for a crash course but I could not pursue that due to the outbreak of Coronavirus. The coaching centre moved its classes online, but I was never comfortable with that. So, I started preparing myself at home. What I have realised is that if your base is clear and you study NCERT books well, that is enough. That is what I have done,” he added.
