Cyclone hits Barak Valley, Hailakandi most affected, no electricity in Silchar

Friday dusk was a little scary for Barak Valley, cyclonic storm coupled with moderate rainfall came as a shock for the residents. The storm continued for about half an hour and Hailakandi suffered the most. A lot of houses tumbled down like house of cards, gigantic tress got uprooted and fell over high tension electric cables resulting interruption in power supply. Nearby areas Nischantopur, Monacherra, Ayenakhal, Sarashpur among others got seriously affected because of the storm. People suffered loses in Lala and Katlicherra areas too.

Meanwhile Silchar and Karimganj too got affected by the cyclone that hit the valley this evening. Many trees fell down dissecting electric cables and interrupting power supply in the region. Apart from interruption in power supply and trees falling down no other loses is reported yet.

APDCL (Assam Power Distribution Company Limited) officials told us that technicians are deployed on ground and the teams are trying their best to restore electricity as soon as possible. As per latest reports power supply is restored in few areas of Cachar while its still completely interrupted in Karimganj and Hailakandi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a warning couple of days back stating that the region will face thunderstorms
