Super Division: Club Oasis goes down without a fight as Town Club wins by 194 runs

Town Club by far is the best performing unit in the Silchar DSA-organised Narayan Paul Memorial Super Division tournament. After decimating defending champions United Club in the first match, Town Club has outperformed Club Oasis in all departments.

Winning the toss, Oasis decided to ball first. The captain wanted his pacers to rake in the benefits of the morning moisture on the wicket. It was a cold morning, but the Town Club openers were warmed up. Opener Yasir Ali and Mujibur Ali were hitting Oasis’ bowlers all over the park. Yasir Ali scored 85 runs of 72 balls with the help of nine boundaries and two huge sixes. In the middle order Mujibur Ali scored 63 runs of 55 balls. The rest of the batsmen capitalised on the good start and managed to put 320 runs on the board. This is the highest total so far in the tournament.

Though Town Club played brilliantly as a team, Samik Das (24) and Abhishek Thakuri (22) failed to live up to expectations yet again. Both of them are state-level players and favourites in Silchar Satindra Mohan Dev Memorial Stadium.

On the other hand, Club Oasis had an abysmal outing on the field. Their bowlers lost control and gave away 49 extras which included 39 wides. At the Super Division level, such disastrous bowling performance has shocked the spectators. If bowling was bad, fielding was worse. The team collectively dropped four to five sitters.

Arijit Mahapatra picked up three wickets for the Club Oasis, however, riding against the wave, Tapash Das emerged as the best bowler for the Public School-based Club. He dismissed four key batsmen.

Chasing a mammoth 320 run total, Club Oasis failed to put forward a fight. They got bundled out in just 22.3 overs with meagre 126 runs on the board. Suraj Yadav scored 30 for Oasis while Arijit Mahapatra added another 22 and were the only batsmen to get to a respectable score.

After this huge defeat, the cloud of relegations is looming large on Club Oasis. Unless they manage to improve in all three departments, a turnaround is extremely difficult.

Tomorrow, India Club will play against Jogajog Sangha which got promoted to Super Division after winning First Division last year.
