Town Club's fourth win in a row in Super Division; Samik Das gets man of the match

Town Club continues its winning streak in the Narayan Paul Memorial Super Division League cum Knockout Cricket organised by Silchar DSA. On Thursday, they won against Itkhola AC by 46 runs picking up their fourth consecutive victory in the league. As a result, they also secured their way to the semi-final and became the first team in the tournament to do so.

Town Club is at the top of the league table with 16 points after four matches. On the other hand, it was Itkhola’s second defeat in three matches.

Itkhola decided to field first after winning the toss at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in the morning. Town Club scored 203 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 40 overs. Samik Das contributed 44 runs to the team’s score, the highest among all. He was also the skipper of the team for the day as the captain of Town Club, Abhishek Thakuri was called to the state team for Syed Mustak Ali T20 tournament.

Apart from Abhishek, Town Club also couldn’t get Mujibur Ali as he was also called to the state team camp. On the other hand, Itkhola too had to carry on without their star spinner Rahul Singh who joined the state team camp.

Apart from Samik, Rahul Karan Majumder batted at seven and played a brilliant innings of 40 runs. It was his 21-ball innings that made the Town Club cross two hundred. The other notable run contributors of the team were Avitav Paul (26), Yasir Ali (23), Mrinal Kanti Nath (28) and Krishanu Dutta (12).

Abhijit Sinha took two wickets. Prakash Bhagat gave very few runs during his spell.

In response, Itkhola once again had to pay a heavy price for batting failure. They were all out for 157 in 34 overs. Left-handed batsman Abhijit scored a half-century (51) but was dismissed after he played a bad shot which turned the match. However, not only Abhijit, but captain Sadiq Imran Choudhury (18) and opener Biswajit Bhattacharjee (36) also got dismissed early.

Abhishek Chakraborty remained unbeaten at 14 runs.

Samik bowled well (4-32). He took four wickets in a single over. Rajkumar Das, Mantu Das, Abid Hassan Laskar and Prakash Bhagat were returned to the pavilion one by one. Samik missed a hattrick chance. Left-arm spinner Sudarshan Sinha (2-30) bowled well.United Club will play against Club Oasis on Friday.
