Serial snatching in Silchar: DSP Cachar confirms IC Tarapur Suspended
In-charge of Tarpur Police Outpost, Jadav Chandra Deka has been temporarily suspended from service as he failed to control the serial snatching from areas under his jurisdiction.
Today afternoon retired engineer Prajesh Chandra Ghosh, a resident of the Tarapur area had withdrawn Rs 3,00,000 from the UBI Tarapur branch. As he reached near his home in an autorickshaw, two bikers chased him and snatched the bag of money, and escaped.
Bhargav Sanjeevan Goswami, DSP Cachar confirmed that the IC Tarapur has been suspended. “The IC was reinforced with additional forces yet there was no dominance on the ground and that is why the step has been taken,” said Goswami.
He added that the Cachar Police department has written to the state headquarters for additional forces as there is a lack of manpower in the district’s police department.
About serial snatching in Silchar, the DSP added, there are multiple people involved in this and the snatchers operate like a nexus. “Somebody might be sitting inside the bank and probably calls and informs others who follow the victim and eventually snatch the money. We try to trace them by following CCTV footage, but in most cases, there isn’t any camera installed outside the bank. So, we get no clue about who sat on the bike and followed the victims,” he added.
However, the DSP said that check posts have been installed at various points in the town and the Police are taking measures to nab the culprits.
