Forced to abort thrice in 14 year of relationship; Shocking revelations in Lipi Dam Kanungo's police complaint
On February 4, 2021, 34-year-old Lipi Dam Kanungo was found hanging at her rented apartment in Das Colony Silchar. Her body was recovered by the local police and a suicide note along with the photograph of a man who she alleged to be her boyfriend were collected as pieces of evidence. The police maintained they are investigating the matter.
However, on January 25, 2021, just 10 days before she killed herself, Lipi Dam Kanungo had filed a police complaint at Silchar Sadar Police Station. Barak Bulletin has sourced a copy of that Police complaint and it contains shocking revelations.
In her complaint, Lipi Dam Kanungo who grew up with her aunt mentions that in 2006, while she was studying at GC College in Silchar, she met Drubojyoti Nath. They fell in love and were in a relationship for 14 years. Four years into the relationship in 2010, Lipi Dam Kanungo writes in her complaint that Drubojyoti Nath promised her that they will get married soon.
“Based on that promise, we got into a physical relationship. I was against it, but then he took me to Shiva Temple in Jhalu Para and accepted me as his married wife. Since then, both of us have been living together in a rented apartment just like any other married couple. I trusted in that wedding and kept asking him to take me to his own house to stay with his family, but he kept avoiding me,” Lipi Dam Kanungo wrote in her complaint.
She writes that in the course of their relationship, she got pregnant three times and was forced to abort each time she conceived. “In the first time, he took me to a doctor and the abortion was consensual. The second time he forced me to take some pills. The third time, I was adamant that I will deliver the baby but then he kept threatening me to leave me forever and manipulated me to abortion,” she wrote in the Police complaint.
A few days back, according to the Police complaint, Lipi Dam Kanungo got to know that Drubojyoti Nath got married to a girl from his locality in Patherkandi. That hit her as a shock as she believed they were living a married conjugal life. On January 25, she went on to file police complaint where she accused Nath of cheating.
A case was registered at Silchar Sadar Police Station under sections 341/419/376/448/313/328/506. Since the accused is a resident of Vivekananda Road Silchar, the case was referred to Tarapur Police Outpost and in-charge, Ananda Mehdi was asked to investigate the matter.
Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Mehdi said, “Police officials have visited their residence in Patherkandi. We have taken their statement and the arrest of the accused will follow next.”
