Group of 20-dacoits loot ex-army Aji Uddin's house in Kalain; Opens fire leaving 10 injured, 3 critical
At around 1:30 am last night (today morning) a group of 20-armed men barged into the residence of Azi Uddin located in Kalain’s Burunga area. The group of dacoits assaulted the residents, looted all the cash they found, snatched chains and other ornaments that the women in the house were wearing. After running a ruckus in the house for about an hour, the dacoits left with all they could find.
However, on their way out, they saw villagers gathering. “This rattled them and they opened fire. The sound of gunfire terrified the locals. In the course close to 15 got injured. Bullets were fired at Azi Uddin, his family members, neighbors. A minor has also got injured. Three are critical and under treatment in Silchar Medical College and Hospital,” said the younger brother of Azi Uddin.
Azi Uddin is an ex-army and very popular figure in the locality. He is the son-in-law of MLA – Badarpur Anwarul Haque. Currently, according to his brother’s statement, his condition is critical and he has been admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
The locals have blocked the Silchar – Kalain, Jaintia Hills road demanding immediate arrest of the family members. “The Police and administration leave us abandoned. There is no protection at all. The dacoits are never booked. A few days back, the former GP president’s house was looted by dacoits in Pangram, Cachar Police did not make any arrests. We demand immediate action,” said one of the agitating protestors.
The SP, Cachar was unavailable for comment in the story. According to sources in the Police, SP, Additional SP has left for the spot and will meet the protestors.
