Red Rose and Chocolate for Traffic Rule Violators, Silchar Traffic Police with a Unique Way of Promoting Road Safety

In an effort to celebrate the ongoing month-long road safety awareness campaign ‘Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha’, the Assam Police, Silchar and Cachar Police have come with a friendly new gesture for people not wearing helmets. Each traffic rule violator in Silchar was presented with a red rose and a chocolate by the police at traffic points to promote road safety and awareness.

Talking about this new move, Silchar Sadar Thana officer in charge Ditumoni Goswami said, “Around 50 traffic police officials were entrusted with this job in selected few traffic points. Whenever we found someone not wearing a helmet or not following traffic rules, we stopped them, presented them with a rose and a chocolate, and asked them to not violate traffic rules any further.”

The road safety month started on January 17 and is going to last until February 18. Sanjeev Goswami, in-charge of Silchar traffic police, said, “There are people who fear traffic police, and in turn often end up neglecting traffic rules due to this fear. We hope this move of presenting them with roses and chocolates will help eradicate their fear & ignorance regarding traffic rules and also to promote awareness regarding road safety.”

It is to be noted that, recently there has been a steep hike in road accidents all over the district, with most of the victims being young riders without helmets protecting them.
