BJP Cachar District Committee Burns Effigy of Rahul Gandhi in Silchar Condemning His Anti-CAA Remarks

On Monday morning, the BJP Cachar District Committee took out a protest rally condemning Rahul Gandhi where his effigy was burned. The protest was a result of Indian National Congress (INC) President Rahul Gandhi’s anti-CAA remark during his recent visit to Assam. During one such visit in Sibsagar, Rahul Gandhi openly criticised the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and assured that if they come to power, they’ll scrap off the CAA. This didn’t sit well with the ruling party which result in this form of indignation against Rahul Gandhi and the entire INC party as well.

The BJP Cachar District Committee took out a rally holding the effigy of Rahul Gandhi and then burnt it amidst a scathing slogan against him. On behalf of the BJP Cachar District Committee, Kanad Purkayastha said, “We know that the Government has already passed the Citizenship Amendment Act. The process has already started through which many persecuted minorities from Bangladesh and erstwhile East Pakistan can take citizenship in India. But today I’m saying this with shame and disgust that the All India INC President Rahul Gandhi yesterday during his visit to Assam has openly claimed that if they form a government, they’ll scrap off the CAA. We condemn this remark made by him which protects the rights of so many refugees living here.”

The demonstration and effigy burning made quite a commotion with raging slogans which also attacked Sonia Gandhi and former MP Sushmita Dev. They also alleged that the Congress party has failed to decide on the fate of all the refugees who have been living here even after ruling India for decades. They accused the INC of playing vote bank politics with the lives of people like the refugees.
