
Founder of Mukhosh Drama Group and a valiant figure of the 1961 Language movement, Parthasarathi Sen no more
Parthasarathi Sen, one of the heroic figures of the 1961 language movement is no more. He was living in Bangalore with his son and family for the past few years and was admitted to a private hospital owing to illness. Sen, an actor, playwright and a hero of the language movement, breathed his last at 6:30 am today. He was 81 at the time of his death.
He has been associated with various movements since the age of 20. He played an important role as a member of Karimganj College Student Union. He also has a special contribution in Barak Valley as a drama personality. He was the founder of Mukhosh Drama Group. Not only famous as a director, he was also known for his acting.
When the first drama competition was organised by Rupam Sangstha in Silchar back in 1985, he and his troupe staged the play “Shatabdir Padabali” and won the Best Production award. He has also written several plays and has won awards not only in Barak Valley but also from different states of the country staging plays like “Machi”, “Jodi Ami, Kintu Ami”. As a director, he loved his theatre group not only as a team, but as a family.
Professionally he was a sub-divisional officer of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited. The playground was his favourite place. He was a first class referee of football and a member of Karimganj Lawn Tennis Club.
Sen played a special role in the 1961 language movement. He put up a brave fight for saving the dignity of his mother tongue Bengali. Many saw him picketing in a blood drenched state for protecting the dignity of Bengali language. He walked in many processions and even saw his own father go to jail for defending their mother tongue.

He was the eldest son of the late Rathindra Nath Sen. With his demise, Karimganj lost one of their guardians today.
