"I resigned from Congress is a misrepresentation of facts," Sushmita Dev; confirms disagreement on seat-share

All India Mahila Congress president, Sushmita Dev confirms that she has not resigned from the party. Yes, there was an argument with Ripun Bora in the morning in front of the Congress’ party workers, but she said that she never offered to resign.

In election times, things change thick and fast. An example of that is the developing story featuring, Sushmita Dev. In the afternoon, the ‘breaking news’ was that the senior Congress leader had tendered her resignation. Now, that story has taken a ‘U’ turn.

“I resigned from Congress is a misrepresentation of facts,” said Sushmita Dev while speaking with Barak Bulletin. In a detailed interaction with the publication, she explained the scenario that had developed in the afternoon.

“When I reached the hotel, I saw party workers agitating and threatening to resign amass. They came to me and said that they have got to know, Pradesh Congress has agreed to give away six seats in Barak Valley, including Sonai. That is when I asked Ripun Bora Ji if it is true,” explained Dev.

She said, “few friends in media” saw that discussion with Ripun Bora, and that is when they have probably misinterpreted the development. “I had a brief discussion with Anamul Haque Laskar and drove away from the spot as there was a scene being created at the hotel premises. I started discussing the matter with the agitating workers. They were shouting that they will resign and I was there standing with them. But I did not say, I will resign,” asserted Dev.

However, she confirmed that there was a disagreement over the seat-sharing. “If six seats are given away in Barak Valley, what should the Congressmen do? Will that be paying adequate respect to the party workers who worked hard in tough times? I raised questions on the behalf of the party’s blocks in Barak Valley. I did not comment on any individual in particular but the discussion was all around the party’s ethics and ideology,” she added.

It is worth mentioning here that, highly placed sources in the Congress confirmed that she had indeed tendered her resignation. The source said, she even threatened to visit Delhi when she offered her resignation.
