Sarbananda Sonowal, Rahul Gandhi to visit Barak Valley today; tour programmes of both the visits revealed
To give the final touch of campaigning for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in Assam, both the BJP and the Congress are busy bringing over political heavyweights in the Barak Valley to swing the tide in their favour. While the Congress recently brought youth leaders Sachin Pilot and Tejashwi Yadav to campaign for the local candidates of the grand alliance, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a grand roadshow in the heart of Silchar where state minister and NEDA Chief Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the rally amidst a welcoming crowd of people.
Now, with only a couple of days left for the campaigning to get over, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is going to visit Barak Valley today, to once again boost the wave in favour of the BJP. Similarly, on the same day, Congress MP and former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) Rahul Gandhi is also scheduled to visit Barak Valley to campaign for the Congress party. The tour programmes of both the visits have been made public by their respective party press releases.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is scheduled to arrive at the Kumbhirgram airport in Cachar at 10 am on March 30. From there, he’ll first leave for the Ratabari constituency of Karimganj district, where has a programme scheduled at 10:30 am. After that meeting is over, at 11:30 am, he’ll leave for the Akbarpur area near Ponerogoarch Bazar in Karimganj district. Then at 12:10 pm, he’ll leave for Dholai of Cachar district where he has a programme scheduled at 12:35 pm at Puthikal near Natun Bazar of Dholai constituency.
After concluding the event there, the CM is scheduled to leave for Silchar, where he’ll attend a programme at the Silchar Polytechnic field at Meherpur at 1:30 pm. Then from there, he’ll leave for Sonai of Cachar district at around 2:45 pm. There he has a programme scheduled at 3 pm at the N. G. High School field. Then at around 3:40 pm, CM Sarbananda Sonowal will leave for Udharbond of Cachar district. There, he has a programme at the Koomber Tea Garden playground of the Udharbond constituency at 4 pm. After concluding the event there, the CM will leave for the Kumbhirgram airport at around 4:45 pm, where he’s scheduled to leave for the Borjhar airport at 5 pm. The entire CM’s tour will be facilitated by helicopter, hence temporary helipads will be installed across all the venues.
In the Congress camp, Wayanad MP and former INC President Rahul Gandhi will land in the Kumbhirgram airport on Tuesday morning. From there, he’ll directly leave for the Silchar DSA ground at around 11:30 am for a brief stop. Then from there, he’ll leave for the India Club Indoor Stadium, Tarapur by road where he has an interaction session with women scheduled at 11:40 am. After the interaction session is over, Rahul Gandhi will head back to the DSA ground at around 12:40 pm, from where he’s scheduled to leave for Haflong.
The high-profile visits in this Barak Valley have seen some national level faces of Indian politics come and try to persuade the crowd to support their parties. The visits of the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the same date indicates that another day of political hullabaloo is sure to sweep away this valley in what is awaiting to be one of the most interesting and crucial assembly elections for both the leading parties of the country.
