Assam University TDC odd semester examination begins in offline mode; records 98% attendance

After much controversy surrounding Assam University’s decision to conduct TDC odd semester examination in offline mode, finally, the examination of all affiliated colleges under the University has commenced from today as per the schedule. Although many TDC students from several degree colleges affiliated to the Assam University, Silchar were protesting for many days demanding an online mode of examination, sources from the University have claimed that around 98% of attendance was recorded in the first examination that was held today on April 8.

Regarding the TDC examination, Assam University’s Controller of Examinations Dr. Suprabir Dutta Roy said, “Today’s examination was held maintaining all the Covid protocols. We get all the relevant data regarding examination like attendance and everything, and so does the administration as well. Around 98% attendance was recorded today, so I think everything is going smoothly and there’s nothing to worry about.” Registrar of the Assam University Dr. Pradosh Kiran Nath spoke in a similar line as well, saying, “The LLB examinations have already started on April 6, today the TDC examinations have also commenced and we have been reported that almost full attendance has been recorded. Everything went well and the students too co-operated in a beautiful manner.” They have also assured that proper sanitization is being done before and after examination of each paper, with seating arrangements maintaining the required Covid distancing as well.

In addition to that, there has been a rumour circulating on social media from this morning claiming that the students were made to sign an undertaking by the authority for the examination purpose. Regarding the claim, Controller of Examinations Dr. Suprabir Dutta Roy dismissed it saying “This is just sheer rumour being circulated and nothing else. We don’t have any such information regarding any undertaking signed by the students, as we get all relevant updates from the colleges from time to time.”

When inquired about the required Covid protocols, the Principal of Cachar college Siddhartha Sankar Nath said that they have taken all the required Covid precautions like sanitizing the entire college before and after each examination, seating arrangements maintaining social distancing and also wearing masks mandatory. “These Covid precautionary measures are being taken by us college authorities, we didn’t get any SOP from the government to follow, so we did everything we could to ensure safety from our side so that the students could appear in examinations without any tension or worry. And from the first examination that took place today, it went quite smoothly and attendance was also almost full”, said Siddharta Sankar Nath.

The TDC odd semester examination that has commenced today on April 6 will conclude on May 15, 2021.
