Silchar DSA is going to host Under-16 Inter-school Cricket tournament

With an aim to bring out players from the grassroots level, the DSA Silchar is going to organise U-16 Inter-School Cricket League. The tournament will take place at the Silchar’s Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium and will commence on April 16. Currently, the Baidyanath Nath Memorial U-15 Cricket tournament organized by the District Sports Association (DSA) is going on as well. Meanwhile, the DSA has already decided to host another inter-school cricket tournament. It is quite a rare feat to organize two inter-school cricket leagues in a calendar year in the history of the DSA.

A total of 12 teams have participated in the U-16 inter-school cricket. New Oxford High School has come forward as the sponsor. This is also the first time in the history of the DSA that any school has come forward in sponsorship. Secretary of the DSA, Bijendra Prasad Singh, said that the tournament would help bring in more players from the grassroots level. The budget of the sponsorship has been kept at ₹50,000, the cost of which will be borne by the sponsor New Oxford School. However, the rest of the cost will be bored by the DSA from its own funds.

Niranjan Das, the Secretary of the DSA, said that every year after inter-school cricket, they organize camps with the players selected from the tournament. But this time it is not possible due to the ongoing crisis. The champion team of the tournament will get ten thousand rupees including a trophy. The runner-up team will get five thousand rupees including a trophy. There are also various interesting prizes awaiting for the competing teams.

Each match in the tournament will be played in twenty overs. The game will be played on a league cum knockout basis and there will be three teams in each of the 4 groups. At the end of the group league, the top four teams from each of the four groups will advance to the semifinals.

Bijendra Singha, secretary of the DSA, said that the organization would try to host the tournament next year. If so, the DSA might plan to host the Baidyanath Nath Cricket inter-school tournament in U-13 or U-14 avenues as well, which will further benefit the local cricket.
