District administration has decided to take strict actions against those who attempt to disturb peace and harmony in the valley. Last night violence erupted again in Kalibari Chor and its adjoining areas. Police had to fire two rounds of rubber bullets to bring situation under control. Today 15 people have been taken into custody in connection with last night’s violence.

The arrested individuals are: Maksud Ahmed Laskar (25), Hydor Hussain(30), Nasim Ahmed Laskar (30), Salim Barbhuiya (40), Riaz Uddin Talukdar(35), Abdul Hakim Barbhuiya (23), Ahamadur Laskar(25), Ahmed Hassain Barbhuiya(26), Abdullah Laskar(28), Chandan Laskar(36), Rupam Choudhury(38), Noor Ahmed(24), Jamal Uddin Laskar, Nirendra Chandra Das (34), Arabinda Das (34).

Charge sheet has been filed against them under section 147, 148, 149, 333, 335, 336, and 337 of Indian Penal Court. This sections of IPC implies to rioting, provocation, endangering life or personal safety of others, using deadly weapon among others. If found guilty, one can go to jail for upto 10 years.

Today morning the District Magistrate had imposed 144 Cr PC in Kalibari Chor along with Bhuiya Gadi Lane, Madhurband area including waterworks road and Fatak Bazaar Kali Bari area. “Whereas it has been made appear to me there is apprehension that breach of peace and public tranquility may take place in view of recent criminal incidents which took place in Kalibari Chor area and Madhurband area of Silchar town of Cachar district,” this why Deputy Commissioner S Laxmanan decided to exercise the power and impose 144 in the locality.

In the order, he mentioned that 144 will stay until further notice and assembly of more than five persons must be prohibited, no public rallies or processions without specific permission of the District Magistrate/ Additional District Magistrate, no bursting of firecrackers in the district.
