Dr. Joyeeta Bhattacharjee is no more; Subimal Bhattacharjee still admitted in Hospital
Senior fellow, Dr. Joyeeta Bhattacharjee breathed her last today at Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. Director of cultural organisation Jookto, Joyeeta Bhattacharjee had tested positive for COVID19 on April 11 and was admitted to the hospital.
Wife of Subimal Bhattacharjee and daughter of former member of parliament Rajya Sabha late Nripati Ranjan Choudhury, Joyeeta Bhattacharjee is a scholar of South Asia and champion of the India – Bangladesh relationship. Research and engagement on the bilateral relationship were made richer by her contributions.
She was a vital member of the ORF for 15 years and the organisation has condoled her death.

Subimal Bhattacharjee is still admitted in the hospital and the treating doctor confirmed to Barak Bulletin that his condition is improving.
Subimal Bhattacharjee’s last post on Facebook confirmed about their test. “Today 11 April, myself and Joyeeta are confirmed COVID19 positive, last 7 April we tested negative: both being RT PCR tests. Luckily we are admitted since last night and under treatment and will fight this and come out victorious. Not many of you have come in touch as we were isolated away in the farms for a week before turning positive, but please do test if you did come across. Please keep praying and kindly don’t call out of concern: we respect your feelings: please stay safe.”
Former Silchar MP, Sushmita Dev expressed her sorrow. “I spoke with Subimal Da… it is shocking. While I was the MP, we collaborated with her and her NGO for many developmental projects. My prayers are with the family,” said Dev.
Joyeeta Bhattacharjee and Subimal Bhattacharjee had traveled to Silchar together for the prize distribution ceremony of Jookto Media Cricket. She was born and brought up in Karimganj. Her father was the president of District Sports Association- Karimganj. He was a member of the Indian Parliamentary Delegations to Kuwait, Syria and Yugoslavia in 1974 and of the Delegations of the Central Silk Board to Algeria, Tunisia, Italy, France, West Germany and the United Kingdom in 1975.
Nripati Ranjan Choudhury represented the State of Assam in Rajya Sabha from April, 1972 to April, 1978. He was born in Cachar district and he passed away on January 15, 2013 at the age of 75 years.
