17 days after taking the first jab of Covishield vaccine, 65-year-old social worker, Biswajit Paul has breathed his last today at Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s COVID ward.

A resident of the Kalain Bazar area, Biswajit Paul, according to his brother, developed mild fever and chest congestion. That is when the family got him tested for COVID19 and his samples tested positive. Taking his symptoms into consideration, the family decided to get him admitted to the hospital.

Accordingly, on April 21, Biswajit Paul was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital and today he was declared dead with COVID 19. If COVID was the cause of death is yet to be known. His reports have been sent to the State level death audit board which will declare the cause of death.

Meanwhile, his brother confirmed that Biswajit Paul had taken the first jab of the Covishield vaccine 17 days back.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, informed that currently, there are 54 active patients in the Hospital’s COVID ward. 15 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit. “Eight patients are under ventilator while seven are on oxygen support,” informed Dr. Gupta.

On Tuesday, till 6:00 pm, 51 individuals have tested positive for COVID 19 in Cachar.
