Cachar reports 404 cases, highest so far in a day; Tarapur, College Road resident among 4 dead in SMCH

On Sunday, Cachar reported 404 cases, the highest one-day spike ever. Out of them, 174 samples have tested positive on RT-PCR while 230 on RAT. It is worth mentioning here that 1688 samples were tested using the Rapid Antigen Kit which means on RAT, the district is reporting 13.6% positivity rate against 8.51% of the state.

Currently, there are 221 patients admitted to the COVID ward of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), and out of them, 89 are in ICU. Vice-principal of SMCH, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that 19 patients are under ventilator and 95 are on oxygen support. He also admitted that 18 patients got admitted while 29 were discharged.

Dr. Gupta informed that four individuals have died at SMCH in the last 24 hours. 43-year-old Bappa Roy who was rushed to the hospital from Borjalenga on May 15 was declared dead on May 15 itself at around 11:20 pm. 66-year-old, Sreema Palli College Road resident Shivani Das was admitted to the COVID ward on May 10 and declared dead on May 16, 7:40 am. 75-year-old, Haridas Roy was rushed to the hospital today morning and he succumbed today itself at 8:40 am. 48-year-old Tarapur resident, Sajal Kanti Malakar was admitted to the hospital on May 14 and declared dead on May 16 at 11:15 am.

The doctors have observed that patients are being presented with low oxygen saturation level. The doctors have urged families to report patients immediately to the hospitals as late reporting is turning out to be fatal. Cachar has 1299 active cases and out of them, 355 are admitted to hospitals reporting a 27.3% hospitalisation rate.

Karimganj reported 62 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,856. Of the 62 active cases detected on Sunday, 54 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and eight under RT-PCR.

The district has altogether 710 active COVID-19 cases while 48 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Sunday. 1,227 swab samples were collected on Sunday.

Hailakandi has reported 76 positive cases taking the active cases to 706.
