
After Kamrup Metro, Cachar is reporting most number of Covid cases in Assam; 4 dead in SMCH
After Kamrup Metro (907) Cachar district has reported the most number of cases in Assam. On Friday, according to the district health department, 486 individuals have tested positive in Cachar, the highest single-day spike ever. The district has 1888 active cases today, the highest number of active cases ever. The positivity rate on Rapid Antigen Test Kit stays at 6.75% as 361 samples have tested positive out of 5706. The health department, despite requesting several times, continues to hide the number of samples tested on RT-PCR. However, it only reveals the number of sample tested positive which on Friday was 125. Without the number of samples tested positive on RT-PCR, it becomes impossible to determine the positivity rate.
In Silchar Medical College and Hospital, on Friday 50 individuals were admitted, taking the total number of patients to 270. 29 were discharged from the hospital. Currently, 93 patients are in the ICU, and 27 under ventilator. 133 patients are on oxygen support. Vice Principal, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that attendants continue to put pressure on the administration. “We have appealed to the general public many times that attendants won’t be allowed in the COVID ward or ICU as it is not safe and it creates a lot of problems for the doctors and medical staff. But the requests keep mounting as pressure.”
Four individuals have died in the hospital in the last 24 hours. 71 years old Nandakishore Singha from Sudarshanpur, Hailakandi was admitted to SMCH on 19th May and he succumbed at 5:00 pm on 20th May. Imrana Begum aged 38 years of Cachar District was admitted to SMCH on the 20th morning and she breathed her last on 20th itself at 5-10 pm.
78 years old Putul Chandra Das of Uttar Krishnapur was admitted at SMCH on 20 th May and he also breathed his last on 20th itself at 5-56 pm. 48 years old Ajoy Majhi of Malugram, Silchar got admitted at SMCH on 18th May. He succumbed on 20th May at 10-20 pm.
In Karimganj district, 101 samples tested positive for COVID 19 taking the total number of active cases to 737. In Hailakandi district, 117 samples have tested positive. The district currently has 814 active cases.
