Karimganj Police arrests two drug-peddlers, seizes 9,800 YABA tablets

The Karimganj Police is relentlessly determined in its operation against illegal drugs. On Thursday, the Karimganj Police were able to nab two drug smugglers from the Sarpur village near Bhanga of Karimganj district based on a tip-off. Two people were arrested in connection with the seizure of 9,800 yaba tablets. The two arrested drug traffickers are Manjit Das, 27, of Sajipara, and Mehboobur Rahman, 21, of Kazirgram. They are currently being detained and interrogated.

According to the Karimganj police, a search operation was carried out after receiving information from their confidential sources. Eventually, the police started chasing two suspicious individuals coming from Bhanga in Bajaj Pulsar bikes. The two bike riders, being chased by the police, took refuge inside a house in the Sarpur village looking to hide. After searching for a while, the Police was able to arrest those two suspects possessing drugs from that house where they were hiding. The Police are still interrogating the suspects to gather information on where they got the banned drugs and to whom they were planning to supply.

Two days ago, the police arrested some people in possession of 70,000 Yaba tablets. They too were locals but the police suspect that there is a big racket working behind the shadows. Mayank Kumar Jha has conducted several anti-drug campaigns since joining the district as the Police Superintendent. Illegal drugs worth crores of rupees have been recovered and many people have also been arrested in connection to those cases.

He said, “Not only in the Karimganj district, but the entire state’s police are conducting continuous operations against illegal drugs and consistently success we’re succeeding. Our forces are monitoring the drug traffickers in various ways and targeting their movements at the right time. As a result, large quantities of drugs were seized. Our guess is that there is a big racket involved, but it is still a matter of investigation. Attempts are being made to smuggle drugs not only through Karimganj to other states or the international border, but in our district as well. We have to stop that too because it is heavily affecting the youth of our society. Of course, in this regard, the cooperation and awareness of the general public are of utmost importance.”
