Highest number of admission in SMCH in one day; 10 declared dead, second wave gaining momentum

The second wave, which is said to have hit Cachar on April 1, 2021, is gaining momentum. The number of deaths and the number of patients taking admission to Silchar Medical College and Hospital are increasing every day. Also the number of patients admitted is higher than the number of patients discharged.

Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that currently, there are 282 patients admitted to the COVID ward and out of them, 93 are in the ICU. 31 patients are under ventilator and 156 are on Oxygen support. Dr. Gupta added that 61 patients took admission in the last 24 hours which is the all-time highest number of admission to the COVID ward in one day. 53 patients got discharged from the hospital on Saturday.

Ten individuals have been declared dead in SMCH’s COVID wards in the last 24 hours ending at 5:00 pm on May 29. Out of the 10, one was brought dead from a private hospital. He had tested positive upon arrival at SMCH.
