SDPO Lakhipur transferred, "Not related to incident involving doctor," officer; DSP posted as ACP Jalukbari

In yet another rejig in the Police department, many senior officers have been transferred and assigned new roles. One that garners attention is the transfer of SDPO Lakhipur, Cachar. The order signed by the Commissioner and Secretary to the Home and Political Department, Government of Assam states that “In the interest of public service, Partha Protim Das, IPS, SDPO, Lakhipur, Cachar, Assam is transferred and posted as SDPO, Margherita.”

On May 23, a junior doctor alleged that he was assaulted by SDPO Lakhipur on “His line of duty.” A series of social media posts from the doctor garnered the attention of the medical associations and a senior police officer in Assam Police issued an “unconditional apology” on Twitter. A week after the incident, SDPO Lakhipur gets transferred. “He is not the only officer transferred and posted in a new duty. It is a routine exercise and not related to the incident involving the doctor. In fact, he has been posted as the SDPO only just at a different place. These transfers are common and that is how the officers climb up the ladder. It will be amateurish to link the transfer with the unfortunate incident which is being internally investigated,” said a senior officer in Assam Police who wished not to be named.

Partha Protim Das will be replaced by Kula Pradip Bhattacharyya, APS (DR-2015), Dy. Superintendent of Police, Namrup, Assam who has been transferred and posted as SDPO, Lakhipur.

In another major development, Kalyan Kumar Das, APS (DR-2015), DSP (DSB), Nagaon Assam is transferred and posted as DSP(HQ), Cachar. The order states, “In the interest of public service, Bhargav Sanjeevan Goswami, APS (DR-2016), Dy. Superintendent of Police (HQ), Cachar, Silchar, Assam is transferred and posted as ACP, Jalukbari.”

Nirmal Ghosh, APS (DR-2016), SDPO, Bhergaon, Udalguri, Assam has been transferred and posted as DSP(B), Hailakandi.

Gitartha Dev Sarma, APS (DR2016), Dy. Superintendent of Police (HQ), Morigaon, Assam is transferred and posted as DSP(HQ), Karimganj. He will replace, Sudhanya Suklabaidya, APS (PR2017), Dy. Superintendent of Police (HQ), Karimganj, Assam who has been transferred and posted as DSP(B), Sonitpur.
