4 declared dead in SMCH, Cachar's positivity rate rises to 5.58%

Cachar district health department informed that on Saturday 3,940 samples were tested using the Rapid Antigen Test kit and out of them, 220 tested positive. This is for the first time in the last seven days Cachar is reporting more than 5% positivity rate. In fact, 5.58% till 6 PM today is the highest in the state. It is worth mentioning here that the number of tests conducted per day grew manifold as all the vaccination beneficiaries were tested and on an average, around 7,000 doses were inoculated per day, taking the number of tests over 12,000.

The positivity rate is significant as the chief minister of Assam announced, the districts with lower positivity rate will get relaxations on the restrictions imposed to combat the spike of coronavirus infections in the state.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that currently, there are 195 patients admitted to the Covid wards of the Hospital. This is the lowest number of active patients in the SMCH in last one month. He added that 82 patients are in ICU while 17 are on ventilator and 138 on oxygen support. 25 patients took admission to the hospital in the last 24 hours ending at 5:00 pm on June 12, while 28 got discharged. Four individuals have been declared dead in the same period.  

84-year-old Pushpa Rani Biswas of Nuton para, Hailakandi and was admitted to the hospital on June 7 and she was declared dead on June 11 at 9 pm. Fakrul Islam Barbhuiya (50) of South Krishnapur, Cachar. He was admitted on June 8 and was discharged on June 11 at 9 pm.

S Kulochandra a 72-year-old resident of Lakhipur, Cachar was admitted on June 6 and on June 12 at 11 am he was declared dead. Allauddin Barbhuiya aged 60 years of Bagha Bazar Cachar was admitted on June 10 and on June 12 at 2:50 pm, he breathed his last.

In Hailakandi district, 57 individuals tested positive on Saturday taking the district’s total active cases to 814.
