Kalain Adarsha Bidyapith's Principal killed in a hit and run case; Police detains truck in Gumrah
Today morning, in an unfortunate turn of affairs, Principal of Kalain Adarsha Bidyapith 55-year-old Monananda Roy was killed in a hit and run case. A speeding truck traveling towards Meghalaya ran over Roy leaving him dead on the spot.
The incident took place in Kalain today morning. According to the eyewitnesses, Roy was headed towards the market on his cycle when he got ran over by the truck. Locals said they tried to chase the truck, but they failed. Monananda Roy, a renowned teacher in the locality hails from Bhairabpur, Kalain where he has his ancestral house. However, for professional purposes, the locals said, he was staying at a rented apartment in Kalain.
As the truck managed to escape from the spot, Cachar Police installed several check-posts in the Kalain and Katigorah area to intercept the vehicle. Sarsing Terang, inspector in-charge of Kalain Police Outpost said that the Police has managed to catch hold of the truck. “We have detained the 14-wheeler truck. It is registered under the Guwahati RTO and we have detained it at Gumrah. The driver and the handyman managed to run away from the spot,” Terang informed.
He added, “The dead body of the deceased has been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post mortem.”
The Kalain – Katigorah stretch is an accident-prone area. It is in this stretch last year, five students died in an accident after their speeding vehicle collided head-on with a dumper truck coming from the other side. Demands for continuous checking of the valid driving licenses were raised by the locals. The locals allege that the drivers go to sleep leaving the steering to handymen, most of whom don’t have valid motor driving licenses. They feel, improper driving, drunk driving are root causes of these accidents.
