10-day complete lockdown likely in Cachar; CM Himanta Biswa Sarma says, "Final decision on Wednesday"

Breaking news coming in from Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma’s visit in Duliajan, The chief minister in a press statement said if the cases don’t drop up to the mark of expectations, the government will impose a blanket lockdown.

The CM said, “We will analyse the COVID situation of districts in the meeting on Wednesday and based on our analysis, we will take a call as to which districts need to be under a total lockdown. The final decision will be taken on Wednesday.”

He went on to say that in Biswanath district, the government has seen a rapid surge in the number of COVID cases over the last week and it remains a cause of concern. “We will analyse the number of COVID cases over the period of the last week and our decisions will be based on that,” added, Himanta Biswa Sarma.

While he did not name any other district apart from Biswanath, sources in the Chief Minister’s Office say the districts that are likely to see a complete lockdown for 10-days are, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Nagaon, and Cachar. In the last SOP issued by the government of Assam, it was mentioned that in case the situation does not improve in Cachar by June 21, stricter restrictions will be imposed. Responding to a query from Barak Bulletin, an officer in CMO stated that, “If there will be a lockdown in Cachar or not is something that will depend on the number of cases.”

The stricter restrictions seem like a total lockdown for a period of 10 days. The chief minister said this while interacting with the press during his visit to Duliajan.

Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the campus of Duliajan-Numaligarh Pipeline Limited (DNP Ltd) at Duliajan in Dibrugarh and inaugurated the 4th gas compressor package operation as its gas compression station.

“This will significantly enhance the capacity of the PSU and benefit it financially. I also inaugurated an orchid conservation centre & planted a Rudraksh sapling at the campus,” he informed through a Facebook post.
