Boundary dispute between neighbours in Silchar gets violent; Attacked with 'sharp weapon', man gets hospitalised

In a horrible incident arising out of encroachment, two neighbours in the Rangirkhari area of Silchar indulged themselves in a heated conflict which soon turned bloody. The incident happened at Madan Mohan Part lane in NS Avenue, Rangirkhari where Joyeeta Deb lives with her husband Partha Mazumder. According to Joyeeta Deb’s statement, on June 24 at around 3 pm, her husband Partha Mazumder was erecting a bamboo pillar right outside their entrance gate, which falls well within their boundary. Suddenly out of nowhere, their neighbour Kajal Dey came and started protesting about the pillar by abusing Partha in filthy language. The heated argument escalated and soon Kajal Dey reappeared at the scene with a sharp weapon and started attacking Partha Mazumder. This resulted in Partha received grave injuries on his leg and forehead, as well as in other parts of the body.

His wife Joyeeta Deb also tried to stop the conflict as it has already gotten out of hand and life-threatening. With the intervention of Joyeeta’s brother-in-law Shayan Dey and some other local people, the accused Kajal Dey fled away from the scene. Joyeeta Deb repeatedly claimed that Kajal came to her husband with an intent to kill, bearing such a sharp weapon. The injured victim Partha Mazumder was rushed to the South City hospital in Silchar immediately and was admitted to the Operation Theatre there on doctor’s recommendation. The victim lost quite a lot of blood due to the injury but as of now, he’s out of danger.

The victim’s wife Joyeeta Deb then filed an FIR in the Silchar Sadar Police Station against Kajal Dey citing the whole incident. While addressing the media, Joyeeta Deb said, “The entire incident is quite tragic and traumatic. We live in Madan Mohan Part lane House no. 38 in Rangirkhari, and we have a long time boundary dispute with our neighbour Kajal Dey. To resolve the dispute, there’s already a case going on in the Municipality and whenever we’re summoned there, we always visit in due time. But unfortunately, Kajal Dey doesn’t respect the court orders and rarely visits the summons but we have always respected the court order regarding this boundary dispute.”

“Today evening, when my husband was erecting a bamboo pillar near our entrance gate, Kajal Dey appeared and started protesting by abusive means. My husband replied by saying that if he has any problem with this, he should approach the court or take help from the law. But that seemed to have irked him more as he took a sharp weapon and started attacking my husband. While trying to save himself, he injured his hand and leg severely, among other parts. My brother-in-law and some localites came running to the scene of occurrence but by then the accused had fled. I have filed an FIR against him in the police station, and I request the administration to ensure that such violent individuals don’t get to harm anyone else in the future”, said Joyeeta Deb about the violent dispute.

According to the medical report, the injury sustained by the victim Partha Mazumder has caused a dislocation of his bones in the leg. His wife Joyeeta Deb has said that she has the utmost faith in law and justice, and firmly believes that the administration will hold him responsible for his deeds without letting him off cheaply.
