Malugram locals take to streets demanding execution of the child molestor
A 6-year-old girl from Malugram Itkhola was sexually abused by her cousin twice in her own house. After the first incident, her mother was silenced by her family members but after the second incident, the child fell severely ill and started bleeding while passing urine. That’s when the mother lodged a case at the police station. Now locals of Malugram have hit the streets demanding death sentence for the perpetrator.
About 200 people held a candlelight procession on Sunday evening and vehemently protested against the sexual abuse of the child. The procession started from the area adjacent to Itkhola Idgah Ghat at around 6 pm. It was joined by men and women of different ages in the surrounding area. The mother and father of the baby girl also joined in. Besides, members of Bajrang Dal also joined the procession demanding adequate punishment for the culprit.
The filed case mentioned that on April 20, the 8-year-old girl was sexually abused for the first time by her brother at her home in Itkhola area of Malugram. However, after violating her body, the rapist warned the daughter and her mother to keep their mouth shut or else threatened to kill them. The little girl was not administered any treatment even in the injured condition. This gradually led to infection in her genitals. Last week, the accused again pounced on her taking advantage of the moment. Later she became severely ill and had to be hospitalised.
Standing in the candle procession today, the father of the baby girl told that the family members pressurised him to not speak about it. They wanted the case to be withdrawn and things be brought to normal relinquishing the incident. “My young daughter has been harassed in her own home and I will remain silent, that is not possible. My sister and other family members are repeatedly pressuring me in various ways to keep mum. This is not a small incident and we don’t want that to happen to any other girl. That’s why we are protesting.”
Recalling the horror of the incident the mother of the girl child said, “If I had opened my mouth when my daughter was first harassed, she would not be in this situation today. I am a criminal to my child. But this time we will not remain silent until the culprit is punished. Family members are also threatening my young son. They have committed a crime and that is why they’re telling us to remain silent. However, I believe in the law of the land and I hope the accuse will face retribution for his crime.”
Bajrang Dal members present at the procession demanded death sentence for the culprit. “We want the culprit to be hanged. This incident cannot be accepted in any way. We believe that the law will enforce the strictest of actions against him. However it should also ensured that the culprit does get bailed out. We have not accepted torture against our mothers and sisters nor will we in future as well.”
Locals warned they would not allow the accused to enter the area if he was released on bail. The police were caught a little off the guard as there was a sudden procession breaking covid induced regulations. However, they did not try to stop it by force. People participating in the procession were told to maintain social distancing and not march for too long considering disease threat. At the request of the police, the locals ended the procession in a short time and returned home.
