Miscreants riding on motorcycle snatch Rs 3 lakh from a man in Silchar's Malugram
Malugram’s diversion road resident Sivaji Dam went with his son to the bank to withdraw money. According to the statement of the 51-year-old, after withdrawing the money from the State Bank of India’s Park Road branch, he sat on his son’s bike and they both started riding towards home.
Wasn’t a happy homecoming. “Midway I realised there is a motorcycle trying to come too close. After a few near misses, I told my son that there might be someone chasing us. As we reached our home and I got off from the bike, the pillion on that motorcycle jumped on me and snatched my motorcycle,” said Dam.
He adds, he was left wounded on the ground and by the time his son could park the motorcycle and stop the miscreants, they were on their way…”We started screaming. As it was happening in broad daylight, others also gathered. However, the continuous effort did not help. The miscreants are well-trained. They managed to escape with the money. It was my hard-earned money and I expect the Police will nab the culprits and recover the cash,” Dam added.
He said he had withdrawn the money for some essential household work and the incident happened in the morning. He has lodged a Police complaint at Malugram Police Outpost. Speaking with Barak Bulletin, the officer in-charge of the Police outpost said, “We will check the footage of various CCTV Cameras installed in the vicinity. We have started our investigation and using our sources, we will try to nab the culprits.”
On Friday, a Radhamadhab College employee was looted too. In a similar sort of incident, miscreants managed to snatch Rs 2 lakh from him. He had withdrawn the money from the State Bank of India’s New Silchar branch located in Hailakandi Road near Rangirkhari.
It is clear that snatching is again on the rise in Silchar. Lakhs were snatched in several such incidents late last year and early this year. Cachar Police had eventually managed to arrest a few culprits in connection with snatching. How the new Police formation manages the menace of snatching is something that remains to be seen.
