"Mizos encroached 6.5 kms within Assam, obstructed Govt. work and abused officials," Cachar SP; "Will investigate blast"

Another episode of unruly-abusive Mizo mob running ruckus within Assam is unfolding in Cachar. What has now become a yearly affair, the Mizos guarded by armed men have encroached kilometers into the territory of Assam. Today, a huge contingent of Assam Police pushed the Mizos back. But even after the retreat, they continue to remain within the territory of Assam.

“Mizos encroached 6.5 km within Assam, obstructed Govt. work and abused officials. They were aggressive and refused to cooperate,” says Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, SP Cachar. Today, ADGP Harmeet Singh, DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli, and other senior officials of the Cachar district visited the border.

“We got to know that the government commissioned and approved work is getting disrupted by the residents of Mizoram. They have encroached within the territory of Assam and claim it to be within Mizoram. At Khulicherra border, the Mizos were obstructing the work and behaving inappropriately, so, we deployed force to push them back,” informed SP Cachar.

“We are in discussion with our counterparts in Mizoram. They have informed about the unruly behaviour and we have also reported the same to the senior officers in Government of Assam,” added Nimbalkar.

Barak Bulletin broke the news of an explosion on the border. When Assam Police pushed the Mizos back, the civilians on the other side, launched an attack with slingshots. The delegation of Assam was targeted and a grenade was exploded. “Yes, we have heard the sound of a blast. The matter is under investigation,” said the SP.

The Mizos were holding sticks and sharp weapons and they stopped a JCB deployed to level the field. That is when the Assam Police decided to intervene. The Mizos don’t want the road between Dholakhal and Upper Painom to be constructed as they fear that will force them to retreat.
