In a tragic turn of affairs, a 19-year-old has killed himself by hanging with a rope at his own residence in Silchar’s Tarapur. Ukil Bazar resident, Tapash Paul had left the house with his wife to attend an invitation leaving two sons at home. The elder brother, Sunny Paul left the home for some work and when he returned, he found that the doors are shut from inside.
He knocked on the door, banged the door, there was no response from inside. Eventually, they broke open one of the doors and entered the house. To their dismay, they found Tanmoy Paul is dead and he is hanging with a rope.
Tanmoy Paul’s father Tapash Paul said his son was always an introvert and used to remain engrossed in his own mobile phone. “We used to tell him to talk to us and communicate his issues. Little did I know that he will end up killing himself. Pulling down my son’s dead body is definitely the toughest moment of my life. I wish I was dead,” said Tapash Paul.
He added, “For the most part of the day, he was at home as there were the lockdowns. He was also upset about the Class X examination getting postponed. But not even in our wildest of dreams, we could foresee him doing something like this.”
Tanmoy Paul is a professional Hockey Player and has played in the district’s junior and senior teams. He has also played for the Tarapur AC club.
The Officer in charge of the Tarapur Police Outpost, Ananda Mehdi informed that the Police officials had recovered the dead body with the help of family members and has been sent to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post mortem. The police has recorded the statements of the family members and prima facie, it looks like a suicide.
“The doors were locked from inside and the body was also recovered from inside, so, it will be a suicide only. However, we will wait for the postmortem reports before making an official comment on the cause of death. The postmortem will be done tomorrow and the body will be handed over to the family,” informed Mehdi.
