Planting 1000 trees: Forest department felicitates 10-year-old; DFO calls him “Oxygen Boy”
On his 10th birthday, Cachar’s Abhinav Dev decided to plant thousand trees in order to grow the oxygen supply in nature. He was told by his teachers that hundreds are dying due to lack of oxygen supply while the second wave of Coronavirus infections was at its peak. The small nugget in a classroom sow seeds to his larger motto in life.
With the help of his parents, so far, Abhinav Deb has managed to plant around hundred trees. The Choto Jalenga, Cachar resident, today, was felicitated by the Forest Department of Cachar. The divisional forest officer, Sunny Deo Chaudhary recognised him as “oxygen boy”. He lauded the young boy’s efforts and said that the forest department will propose him as the brand ambassador of the district’s environment awareness programme.
The DFO added, “Efforts like this we’ll motivate others to put a step forward towards environment awareness and a forestation. We are glad to have felicitated him today and we look forward towards collaborating with him.”
Chaudhary said that the people of Cachar are far more aware today and due to their awareness the forest department is able to save trees, birds and other animals. He considers it as a great sign of progress and appreciates the efforts of general public.
Abhinav Deb’s father Ajay Deb and mother Bulti Deb are supporting him. They said that around 100 trees have been planted on either sides of the Choto Jalenga to Nagathal highway. They are also taking several steps to protect the saplings.
Ajoy Deb said his son is always curious about nature, environment and animal lives. “Be it in school or in tea table discussions at home he always has a question or two about nature. In fact, he has now started refusing to eat meet as he feels it kills an animal in order to cook meat.”
Abhinav Deb studies in class III and is a student of Delhi Public School located in Kathal Road, Silchar.
