Will cooperate in all investigation, "Let NIA investigate," Himanta Biswa Sarma on the FIR against him

An FIR has been registered against the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, IGP Assam Anurag Agarwal, DIG Cachar, Devojyoti Mukherjee, DC Cachar Keerthi Jalli, Sunnydeo Choudhury, DFO Cachar, (Vaibhav) Chandrakant Nimbalkar, Sahab Uddin OC Dholai Police Station and 200 unidentified Assam Police Personnel.

The case has been registered under sections 307/120-B/270/325/326 and section 353/336/334/448/34 of IPC. “It is a childlike act,” reacted Chief Minister Sarma. H. Lalchawimawia of Vairengte Police Station has filed a complaint, based on which the cases have been registered. Though the date mentioned in the FIR is July 26, 2021, it only came to light after Assam Police issued summons to Rajya Sabha MP, K. Vanlalvena, Kolashib SP Vanlalfaka Ralte and others.

A team of Assam Police including the officers of CID went to the office of K. Vanlalvena in New Delhi for lawful investigation of his statements, but the MP was unavailable. “He is missing” is what has been reported. Unlike Vanlalvena, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, he will cooperate with the investigation. “I will be very happy to join in any investigation,” Sarma wrote on Twitter.

However, he argued, “But why the case is not being handed over to a neutral agency, especially when the place of occurrence is well within the constitutional territory of Assam? Have already conveyed this to ZoramthangaCM.”

Speaking with the media, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Assam and so, Assam Police has the rightful authority to investigate the incident, which is being done today. However, if the case needs to be handed over to CBI or an NIA, Assam would be happy to do so.”

In the complaint, H. Lalchawimawia of Vairengte Police Station mentioned, During this negotiation period, Assam Police started “re-enforcing its troops and continue to occupy the Mizo IR Bn. Camp/BOP. The situation started to heat up as many civilians from Lailapur side shown up at the area and started throwing/pelting stones towards civilians of Vairengte.” However, it is worth mentioning here that, there were more public gatherings on the Mizo side and most of them were armed with slingshots, air-guns and other weapons. The complaint adds, “As the situation appears to become out of control, Assam Police started firing Stun Grenade and Tear Smoke shells which were retaliated by the public gathered at the spot. At around 4:40 PM, the Assam Police started firing at the Mizoram Police personnel and the public gathered nearby and in self-defense as well as to save the public, Mizoram Police fired back and an exchange of fire began.”

Again, it is worth noting here that at 4:31 pm, when SP Kolashib was sitting with the IG Assam Police, Anurag Agarwal, it was bullets everywhere. Refer to the photograph above and the video below.
