"Arrest Shrinkhal"; BDF Youth Front lodges FIR against Lachit Sena leader for clarion call threatening Bengalis
In a video that recently went viral on social media, a person named Shrinkhal Chaliha who is a member of a radical regionalist organisation named ‘Lachit Sena’ was seen threatening a Bengali businessman in Sivasagar district. The BDF Youth Front, today filed an FIR against him in Silchar Sadar Police Station as a mark of protest. Their demand is to “Arrest Shrinkhal”.
In a press statement, Kalparnab Gupta, Chief Convener of the Youth Front said the bigoted move by Lachit Sena was reprehensible and was being deliberately done to ruin the cordial relations between Bengalis and Assamese living in the state. Shrinkhal threatened that the Bengalis won’t dominate in Assam and will have to be remain tyrannised by the Assamese.
Making a rebuttal to Chaliha’s browbeating, Kalparnab alleged that the Bengalis did not come to the state out of their own will and one can know that if he reads the history of the region. Due to the non-collection of proper revenue in Assam, three districts of erstwhile Bengal province were annexed to Assam in 1874. Therefore, these statements of Lachit Sena are indicative of prejudice and extreme racism against Bengalis.
“We want Shrinkhal Chaliha to be held accountable for his actions and that is why we have been forced to file a case against him on behalf of the BDF Youth Front. We want the government to take appropriate legal measures against him immediately. We will keep a close watch on the actions performed by government in this regard” informed Kalparnab.
