Former North Karimganj MLA Mission Ranjan Das appeals to Assam CM to resume local train services

Although traveling restrictions have been relaxed recently considering a drastic fall in the number of Covid cases throughout Assam, the local trains are yet to resume their services. Last week, former North Karimganj MLA and Chairman of the Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC), Mission Ranjan Das has appealed to the Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma to resume local train services, which has been stopped from March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the letter, he wrote, “I have the honour to state that many people have approached me to take up the matter of resuming local train services in Barak Valley which has been stopped from March 2020. Local small Traders and Hawkers have been facing tremendous financial crises in maintaining their families. Some of them have exhausted their small capitals during this long lock-down and restrictions period due to Covid-19.”

“Now they have been pressing for resuming local train services. Lower-income group people/passengers also desired to resume the services. I, therefore, pray to you to consider the matter and oblige”, he then added. The former BJP MLA is a four-time legislator from the North Karimganj Vidhan Sabha constituency from Assam.
