Cachar Police arrests four Mizoram residents while selling illicit liquor in Assam; “They’re simple villagers,” SP Kolasib
Cachar Police has confirmed that four Mizoram residents have been arrested from Khulicherra in Dholai. According to the Police, they were selling illicit liquor (Sulai) within the constitutional boundaries of Assam.
On September 3, four of them were spotted by the local police while performing the illegal act. Immediately, the Police detained them and after investigation, they were arrested. “Based on evidence, four of them were arrested and now they have been sent to the custody,” informed Ramandeep Kaur, Superintendent of Police, Cachar.
Along with the four of them, the Police also confiscated the consignment of illicit liquor. Lalnunhlima (50 yrs)S/O Lalramtana, Lalfakawma (28 yrs) S/O Tlingkhawhawii (L), Laldawngliana (27 yrs) S/O Rangkhuma (L), Lalthakima (14 yrs) S/O Lalengzauva have been arrested from Khulicherra. All of them happen to be the residents of Painom area in Mizoram.
SP Kolasib, Vanalfaka Ralte, however, claimed that four of them are innocent. “They are simple villagers who went to Assam to fetch some stuff. We have no knowledge of them being smugglers or traders of illicit liquor. The counterparts from Assam Police did not communicate anything with us so far. We are looking into the matter,” asserted Ralte while speaking with Barak Bulletin.
